Everything you may not know about SUS: Brazil’s Unified Health System

INTRODUCTION

 

Did you know that the SUS (Unified Health System) program is very close to you, but often goes unnoticed? This wide and very important Brazilian healthcare program is not only at hospitals; it is also in grocery stores, the water you drink, family vacations, vaccinations, and many other places. In this task, we are going a little further to find out where SUS operates and how close it is to you.

TASK

* This task will be divided into 5 steps:

 

Step 1: Searching for information: what we know about the chosen activity.

- Step 2: Starting pamphlet production.

- Step 3: Evaluating the results.

- Step 4: Last version of the flyers.

- Step 5: Time to spread the knowledge.

PROCESS

 

  1. We will start by applying informative content from some programs offered by SUS to introduce the theme. To ensure understanding, we will do a Quiz in Kahoot

 

2. Now that you know more about SUS, you are going   to form teams with up to 3 students each and choose an activity provided or performed by SUS to create a pamphlet, with the help from the table of content provided by your teacher. All students can add more information, links, images, etc, on this padlet to help the other students and share information.  You should seek information about:

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. With the information in hand, each group will develop a pamphlet to publicize the activity. The pamphlet needs to be informative and creative (it can contain images, QR Code, links, tables, etc.). It can be done on the website CANVA and in the table of contents, you can also find a tutorial on how to make flyers using this online resource.

  • What is SUS?

  • What is the activity provided/performed by SUS that the group chose?

  • Who can access this activity?

  • How does the SUS carry out such activity?

  • How do the results of the activity reach people?

To facilitate understanding, we will bring the following content about pamphlets:

 

What is a pamphlet?

4. Each group will present the first version of their pamphlet in Step 4 (it does not need to be finalized) and there will be a space for discussion with the other groups, about what tools they used to develop the pamphlet, absorb improvement tips and write down new ideas for the latest version of the pamphlet.

 


5. In the latest version of the flyers, which should already be finished, it must also be delivered on Google Classroom, or/and even be printed to be distributed in the school in the final step, the Fair, but it must be in accordance with the reality and context of the school. Each group will present the new pamphlet, with the changes and information that have been added. At this stage, we will also discuss and organize ourselves for a Presentation Fair, where each group will be responsible for being at the stand explaining to interested parties about the chosen SUS activity.

 


SOCIAL ACTION...

6. At the Presentation Fair, Physical Education, Biology and Arts teachers will be providing support for any questions and clarifications. The fair will be opened for the other classes of the school to visit and learn more about the SUS and contemplate the work carried out by the
class.

EVALUATION

 

The group will be assessed based on its final performance and development during the lessons. The final grade will be from 0 to 10, with each criterion having a score from 0 to 2. Participation in the Presentation Fair will not be included in the evaluation criteria.

                                      CONCLUSION

 

Now that you know more about the SUS and also how to create pamphlets, we hope that you have understood the importance of our health system and that this can help you to understand its role in your daily life and that you can take advantage of it whenever you need it. Knowing which activities are provided by the SUS guarantees us a better life condition, as we discover that we can be served in several aspects. It is also important as we can identify the strengths and areas for improvement in the program. Congratulations on your job, well done!
