* The activities are developed to be utilized by 1st grade highschool students, but can be adapted for other students from “Ensino Fundamental”, 7th - 8th grades.

Introduction:

 

             Despite being a subject often considered uninteresting in schools by many students, history is a topic of extreme social relevance, whether in the field of education or in the cultural and social field. The relevant materials produced throughout history and historical figures can reveal many aspects and its influence in our daily lives.

       Often, historical events directly related to historical figures, individuals who had some impact by taking some notorious action, and because of it, are remembered by countless people or historical materials (books, art, etc.) becoming timeless, these being kings, artists, athletes, scientists, activists, teachers, and many others.

         In this WebQuest you must complete all the steps proposed below, paying close attention to what each one of them proposes to be done, access the links, watch the videos and observe the images so that you can complete the activities properly and acquire more knowledge related to historical figures, their achievements and thus understand the importance of history.

Task...

* The task process will be divided into 4 steps:

1) Why is history important? 
   
Students share their opinions and views about the importance of history and complete some activities in order to better comprehend the importance of history learning - Look into a video about the importance of history 

A) Now... Copy the sentences below in your notebook and complete them with the appropriate words, write the words in the spaces in their appropriate order. The sentences were selected from the video, watch it again and find the answers:

2)  Learning how History is learned.  

      Historical sources are one of the most important aspects to how we learn about the past and about its several historical figures, they are a central piece of source for most knowledge about cultures and societies, having many origins and forms. To understand what can be learned in history, it is necessary to know them.

* In groups, you should create a mind map about historical sources and figures. To guide you in the creation of the mind map, you should reflect and search about the answers for the questions below, using the materials disponible and other resources of your choice, bringing the most information you can find.

  • What are the types of historical sources? 

  • What can be considered historical sources? 

  • Why are historical sources important?

3) Historical figures    3   

                                  

​        It is from the actions of historical figures, that origins and changes in some social element have their origins, or at least help in it, so by learning about them, it is possible to learn something about cultural elements.

* You and your group must create a padlet providing the following information. You would do a search about historical figures, come up with a definition through your findings of what historical figures are.

 

* The Group latter, must select a historical figure, and write in the padlet information about the figure selected. The students must divide their work in the following topics:

 

a) History context of the historical figure.

b) The actions or events made this individual become a historical figure.

c) The impact of these historical figures. How do their actions made or helped them  make an impact in society? 

d) Key characteristic about the figure (physical characteristics, name, age, or curiosities about the figure)

 

     

 

         You can find several historical figures in these sites to select and to learn about who they are/were, but you are not limited to this sources:

                                   Create, in an  an online environment, a project to show the theme "Learning with the Past" 

 

Conclusion

By the end of these activities the students will be able to understand how history is in constant movement and how some actions can positively or negatively affect the world and.How different historical figures play a relevant role into our context nowadays. Furthermore, the students should be able to recognize historical figures and their respective contexts in order to learn from the past and not move forward with old mistakes.
